What is a university transfer course?
After students get between 30 to 60 credits at a College, they can transfer these credits to year two or three of a university degree in Canada. In Canada students can graduate from the university when they finish 120 credits of their major subjects, so it is possible for students to graduate from the university in less than four years, if they take whole semesters and more than four subjects at a time. However, it is very hard for international students to pass and keep up with all subjects at academic courses of a University because English is not their first language. Therefore, before taking academic courses students need to study English at ESL courses or get a TOEFL score.
Why do so many international students like to take university transfer courses? First, many colleges have their own ESL course, and when students finish an ESL course, students can take college academic courses without a TOEFL score. However, some colleges require that students have a TOEFL score, even if they have finished an ESL course. College ESL is good for students to obtain some English skills in writing essays, note taking, and doing presentations.
Secondly, the class sizes at college are smaller than at university. More than a hundred students are in some general study classes at a university. However, there are generally only forty or fifty students in a class at a college. Therefore, students can easily hear lectures, ask instructors questions, and make friends. There are many Canadians who want to transfer to universities from colleges.
FSS can give you some advice and support regarding university transfer. If you have any questions and want to know how to choose and apply to schools, please feel free to contact us.

How much do I need an English test score?
Universities or Colleges in Canada require the students get a minimum TOEFL score of 560 (computer based 220), before students apply. Some schools require TOEFL 580 or 600 as well. If you want to take another test, IELTS can be accepted. Can all students who pass the English test score keep up with classes? Not always, as university or college students have to read a lot of textbooks, write long essays, do presentations, and understand instructors' lectures, and also have to study with English speakers. Therefore, the students need to have comprehension skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening on a par with English speakers. Going to college ESL Schools are better than relying on TOEFL to obtain reading and writing skills.
